Tap any line for the menu path. Anything unticked stops
tracking later with nothing on screen to warn you.
An orange bar marks the ones that fail silently
— your phone will look completely normal.
If you are closing apps to save battery, leave this one
alone. Traccar Client has to keep running and keep its mobile data. Closing
it, or cutting its data, is exactly what makes a rider vanish.
Family and crew do not need an app. Following
riders happens on a web link that opens on Wednesday 23 September — we
will publish it. This checklist is only for the rider’s own phone.
First, all phones
Install Traccar Clientexact name›
The store lists other apps with similar
names. Only Traccar Client reports your position — the others do
nothing for you here. Installing the wrong one is the commonest mistake by a
long way.
Open the app oncethen leave it›
The app does nothing on its own. The rest
happens in your browser.
Sign in and tap Set uproa.wlab.co.za›
Outdoors, with signal. About five minutes.
The last step waits for a real GPS fix and will sit there forever
indoors.
Allow every promptall of them›
Location · Notifications · Motion & Fitness
Anything you decline breaks something later, silently.
Order matters. Your phone will not list the Location
setting until the app has asked for it — which happens at step 3. Finish Set up
first, then the settings below.
iPhone — three stops
1. Settings → search “Traccar”one screen›
Location → Always, and Precise Location on
Motion & Fitness → on
Notifications → allow
Mobile Data → on
All four are on the one screen. “While using the
app” stops the moment your screen goes off. Mobile Data off means the
app only reports on wifi — which looks fine at home and sends nothing
on the mountain.
2. Settings → Battery → Power Modeboth off›
Low Power Mode → off
Adaptive Power → off
Both live here. Adaptive Power turns Low Power Mode back on
by itself at 20%, so switching Low Power Mode off at home is undone halfway
through day two — and Low Power Mode is what suspends tracking.
3. Never swipe the app awayleave it running›
Force-quitting stops tracking dead until
you reopen it. Tidying the app switcher is a habit — break it this
week.
Android — four stops
1. Settings → Apps → Traccar Clientone screen›
Permissions → Location → Allow all the
time, and Precise location on
App battery usage → Unrestricted
Mobile data & Wi-Fi → Background data and
Unrestricted data usage both on
Notifications → allow
Pause app activity if unused → off
Android offers “While using” first, and on newer
versions all-the-time only appears after that — so Location can take
two passes through the same screen.
2. Samsung — Never sleeping appsadd Traccar Client›
Settings → Battery and device care → Battery
→ Background usage limits
Put unused apps to sleep → OFF
Sleeping apps and Deep sleeping apps → remove
Traccar Client if it is listed
Never sleeping apps → add Traccar Client
Adaptive battery → off — same Battery
screen; where it sits moves between One UI versions
Samsung puts an app to sleep after about three days of you
not opening it. You set this up once and never open it again — and
there is more than three days between now and the start. This is the most
likely reason a Samsung goes quiet before you even reach Lesotho. Not the
same setting as “Pause app activity” in step 1.
These add their own battery manager on top
of Android’s and will kill the app with everything above set correctly.
The site has the exact steps for your make. Commonest cause of a rider going
quiet on day two.
4. Never swipe the app awayleave it running›
Force-quitting stops tracking dead until
you reopen it.
Data in Lesotho
You need working mobile data in Lesotho. An Econet SIM
or roaming on your own network — either one, not both.
Either: Econet SIMload data›
Two are issued at registration.
Loading data on them is between you and Econet — their staff are there
for that.
Or: your own SIMroaming ON›
Check with your operator before you travel
that your bundle covers Lesotho. Roaming off means nothing is sent.
Two-SIM phone: data on the right SIMcheck it›
A dual-SIM phone uses one SIM for data. On
the wrong one everything looks normal — full signal, app running — and
nothing is being sent.
Power bankif you are worried›
Run the app for a few days first and watch
what it actually costs your phone. If it is more than you are comfortable
with, bring a power bank and start each day fully charged.
Get checked at the tracking deskat registration›
Once you are on Lesotho data, come past
the tracking desk and we will confirm your phone is actually reporting. Do
not rely on the green tick for this — see below.
Proof it is working
Green tick on the last Set up stepSuccessfully onboarded›
This proves your phone reached the server
at least once — it is the proof your setup worked. It is not a live
reading: once green it stays green, so it will not tell you whether you are
still reporting later, or whether a new SIM is working.
Identifier starts with your numberROA26-137-…›
A plain string of digits means step 2 did
not apply. Go back and do it again.
App looks connected, but nothing ever happenslocation permission›
Android: Settings → Apps → Traccar Client → Permissions → Location → Allow all the time
This is the commonest reason a setup never finishes, and the
confusing part is that everything looks right — the app shows your
identifier, Continuous tracking is on, and we can see your phone talking to
us. It is reaching us; your phone just is not giving it a location to send.
Fix the permission above, then open the app and tap Send location. The
Set up page goes green within a minute if you are outdoors.
Not going green? In order: location permission set to
Always / Allow all the time · outdoors with sky · Continuous tracking on in the
app · identifier starts ROA26- · signal or wifi right now. All five yes and
still not green after a few minutes — message us.
During the race
Charge every nightpower bank
Lost signal is finedo nothing›
Positions are stored and sent when
coverage returns, so your track fills in. Do not go hunting for signal on our
account.
A gap while stationary is normaldeliberate›
The app pauses while you are still and
picks up when you move. A gap while you fix a bike is the system working.
Turn tracking off when you finishor uninstall›
Otherwise it keeps reporting your position
long after you have gone home.
